Join us for out only this year in the Parkland Hills Music Under the Dome series.

This Sunday afternoon and evening from 4pm to 8pm at the Whittier Dome, on the corner of Kathryn and Quincy, we’ll be hosting 3 great bands:

Le Chat Lunatique, 6-8pm

Sol Calypso, 5-6pm

Eryn Bent, 4-5pm

Spring Green Waste Collection!

Residents can recycle their green waste for FREE !

When: May 6, 2013 – May 17, 2013

City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Residential Customers can take advantage of free green waste pickup. Green waste will be collected on your regular trash collection day during the following weeks:

May 6 – May 10 and May 13 – May 17

Instructions
Solid Waste Residential customers must place green waste — such as leaves, grass, and brush — in trash bags.

Bags must not weigh more than 40 pounds each.
Branches must be cut to four-foot lengths and bundled securely.
Items for green recycling must be placed at the curb for collection by 7 a.m. on the regular trash pickup day.
Items should be placed 5 feet away from automated trash containers.

Prohibited Items
Collection crews won’t pick up the following items:

Dirt
Construction debris
Gravel
Construction material
Tree stumps

Manage Your Chronic Disease Program

A free workshop for middle-aged, senior, and disabled adults with chronic health conditions such as: diabetes, arthritis, asthma, cancer, heart disease, hypertension, or any other ongoing or long-term health condition. Participants meet once a week for 2½ hours, for six-weeks and learn useful self-management skills and ways to help them better manage their symptoms. US Dept of Justice Community Meeting

Dear Community Leader:

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is hosting a community meeting at the Cesar Chavez Community Center from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Monday, February 11, 2013. I write to request your assistance in notifying the community about the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for members of the community to learn about DOJ’s investigation into use of force by the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) and to provide individuals a forum to submit information that may be relevant to the investigation.

The meeting will begin with an informational briefing on DOJ’s civil authority to address police misconduct and a brief discussion about the scope and nature of DOJ’s investigation of APD. After that, individuals will have an opportunity to speak to DOJ attorneys and investigators in a more private setting about specific information or incidents they may have experienced or witnessed involving use of force by APD.

We realize that some individuals may have scheduling conflicts or may prefer an alternate setting to submit information. We therefore ask you to please remind the community that individuals can submit information or make arrangements to speak with DOJ attorneys and investigators by contacting DOJ via E-email at Community.Albuquerque@usdoj.gov or by telephone at (855) 544-5134.

Calle 66 Show This Weekend! October 14th at 6:30pm

Join us for our last show this year in the Parkland Hills Music Under the Dome series. This Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Whittier Dome, on the corner of Kathryn and Quincy, we’ll be finishing out the year strong with the contemporary salsa band Calle 66, playing a mix of salsa, merengue, cumbia and bachata.

We’ll also be joined again by Rustic Truck: A Divine Food Truck, so come hungry

Be sure to ‘Like’ the new Parkland Hills Facebook page. We’ll be posting a lot of information there soon and we’re looking forward to seeing how we can make the neighborhood better with better communication between the residents.

We’re planning more shows for next summer so stay tuned!

General Membership Meeting Date Has Moved

The board of the PHNA has voted to move the General Membership Meeting from October 2nd to October 30th. The location and time remain the same: Whittier Community Center, 7:30pm.

We feel this date will allow more time to create the fall newsletter and get it distributed in a timely manner, secure an additional speaker and post signs around the neighborhood.

In addition, Gillian will be leaving the Board in mid October and we’re very grateful to her for all her help in facilitating the Music Under the Dome grant and managing our finances. If you’re interested in becoming the new Treasurer for the PHNA, a vote will be held at the General Membership meeting on October 30th.

Annual Yard Sale

Ads will be placed in the Albuquerque Journal and on Craigslist.com so get ready for the crowds!

Music Under the Dome: Singer/Songwriter Show This Weekend!

This month the Parkland Hills Music Under the Dome series continues this Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Whittier Dome, on the corner of Kathryn and Quincy, with a great line-up of singer/songwriters.

March-a-thon This Weekend

The new band director at Highland High School sent us this note recently:

This year’s March-A-Thon is scheduled for Saturday, August 25th from 9 to 11am. Our primary stops are Triangle Park, Hyder Park, and Ridgecrest Park, yet there will be music throughout the route. In order to raise awareness of our visit, our students plan on distributing flyers Thursday or Friday of next week (August 23rd and 24th).

We really appreciate the continued support of this event and our band. This is a big fund raiser for us and we could not make it such a success without your generosity and hospitality. ‘Wildewood’ Playing This Weekend: Sunday, August 12 at 6:30pm

This Sunday at 6:30pm, the Parkland Hills Neighborhood Association is proud to welcome Wildewood to play under the Whittier Dome at the corner of Kathryn and Quincy.

They’ll be joined by Rustic Truck, a food truck owned by some of our fellow neighborhood residents and we’ve also invited a food truck that specialized in kettle corn!
